What kind of abrasive, backing, etc should be selected for different applications?

Aluminium Oxide

Aluminium Oxide is the most commonly used grain type. It works very well on soft clogging wooden materials, particulary when open coated products are chosen. For hard wood a close coated product is more suitable. For sanding of paint or lacquer as well as stain, Silicon Carbide is the best alternative.

If dust on the workpiece or in the environment is a problem, we recommend antistatic products to be choosen. NaxoStat and NaxoWood are available both for wood and lacquer sanding.

Aluminium Oxide is also used for most types of steel and metal. Our products are available with either flexible or heavy duty cloth backings and in different paper backings.

Silicon Carbide

Silicon Carbid creates a thinner schratch pattern due to its shape. This makes it suitable for applications where the aim is to achieve very fine surfaces and sanding on lacquer, stain and paint. Silicon Carbide can also be used on stainless steel, brass, titanium, plastics, glass fiber, glass and ceramics.

Zirconia

is the most popular abrasive for heavy grinding operations. Most zirconia products come with heavy duty backings such as Polyester and extra strong cotton. Zirconia is required in demanding deburring operations as well as for high stock removal and other machine controlled operations.

N.B. Remember that there is no reason to use a tougher abrasive than needed. Please don´t hesitate to contact us to get the best product recommendations for your operation.
